Weighted indicates that underlying sample of individuals in the Family Resources Survey (FRS) has been weighted or 'grossed up' to represent groups of individuals with certain characteristics in the whole population.
Mean of household income is calculated by adding up incomes for each household in the population and dividing the result by the number of households.

Description

The total, gross income received by a household from all sources in year prices (weekly, in nominal terms), as reported by FRS respondents, where:

A household consists of one person living alone or a group of people (not necessarily related) living at the same address, who share cooking facilities and share a living room or sitting room or dining area. A household will consist of one or more benefit units.
The total gross income received by a household from all sources includes:

Earnings from employment and self-employment
Investment income
Income from Retirement Pension plus any Income Support or Pension Credit paid with it
Pension income
Income from disability benefits
Income from other benefits
Income from Tax Credits
Universal Credit income
Remaining income

Classification

Applicable to: all adults and all individuals in a household.

Quality Statement

Earnings from employment include both earnings from adults plus any earnings from children.

For 2020-21 and 2021-22, wages are treated as earnings rather than state support, irrespective of any support payments from CJRS that the respondent's employer was receiving in respect of their employment.

For 2020-21 and 2021-22, self-employed earnings do not include any reported grant amounts received as part of the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS).

Earnings from employment / self-employment come from those who are employed / self-employed in their main job.
